White House to basically make up new job creation numbers

The White House was already engaging in some tomfoolery with how they counted how many jobs were “created or saved” by the stimulus projects.  Now the Associated Press reports that the White House is basically going to start making up those numbers.

You don’t even really need to read the entire article, just this part:

“That means that any stimulus money used to cover payroll will be included in the jobs credited to the program, including pay raises for existing employees and pay for people who never were in jeopardy of losing their positions.”

Listen, the reason that throwing a bunch of money at the problem through “stimulus projects” isn’t working is because it isn’t a long-term solution, and they knew that.  They thought they were just going to “bridge the gap” until the economy turned around.

However, they apparently just thought the economy would just magically turn itself around, because it appears no efforts have actually been put towards that goal.

The economy will turn around when there is an actual need for new jobs, not when fictional jobs are “created” for the sole purpose of giving people work to do.  No business’s goal has ever been “to provide jobs for people” – actually there are some businesses such as GM that turned into that, but I was really referring to successful businesses.
