Obama/Government Getting Involved in College Football

I guess now that the good news that the economy expanded at an annual rate of 5.7% for the fourth quarter, Obama figured he’s fixed the economy and will now start to get involved in some more areas that government SHOULD STAY OUT OF, such as college football.

Here’s a summary from the AP:

In the letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch, obtained by The Associated Press, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote that the Justice Department is reviewing Hatch’s request and other materials to determine whether to open an investigation into whether the BCS violates antitrust laws.

“Importantly, and in addition, the administration also is exploring other options that might be available to address concerns with the college football postseason,” Weich wrote, including asking the Federal Trade Commission to review the legality of the BCS under consumer protection laws.

Several lawmakers and many critics want the BCS to switch to a playoff system, rather than the ratings system it uses to determine the teams that play in the championship game.

“The administration shares your belief that the current lack of a college football national championship playoff with respect to the highest division of college football … raises important questions affecting millions of fans, colleges and universities, players and other interested parties,” Weich wrote.

Note that Orrin Hatch is behind this as well, which is another reason I consider myself to be a Conservative, not a Republican.

Let me repeat, the government needs to REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM OUR LIVES.  LEAVE US ALONE.  Stop putting your hand in everything.  Back off.

  1. I am all for anyone and everyone getting involved in college football’s postseason. Are you crazy enough to think the BCS can actually be legal? It is a cartel! All the money is guaranteed to 6 conferences! 5 conferences got 24 million this year- the other 6 got about 4 times that! That’s fair? That’s legal? Give me a break, championship or none, playoff or none, the money distribution is grossly inequitable and the BCS keeps it that way.

    I appreciate your comment.

However, I really don’t see how any of it involves the government. What part of the BCS is illegal? As far as it being fair, I’m not trying to be a smart ass, but neither is life.

In my opinion, it’s simply something that doesn’t concern the government.

  3. Nice post! I searched around for this… I found your site! :) I have a Political Blog site of my own at White Rabbit Cult… Otherwise would you care if I posted a backlink from my web site to your blog site?
