Obama says “we’re not campaigning anymore”

During the health care summit yesterday, McCain told Obama that during the campaign he promised to bring “change in Washington” and hasn’t done so.

Obama responded that “we’re not campaigning any more. The election is over.”

Of course, McCain sheepishly responded that he’s “reminded of that every day.”

To me it sounded like Obama was flatly stating that what he said during the campaign has no bearing on what he planned on actually doing when he got elected – that he was simply trying to get elected at the time.

What he needs to understand is that is what we are sick of in politicians and that we do expect them to do what they say they are going to do.

I’m not sure why McCain couldn’t have simply said that in response to Obama’s arrogant quip.
